TV broadcasting pioneer Art Linkletter has passed away at the age 97. He was well loved for several important CBS shows including HOUSE PARTY, PEOPLE ARE FUNNY and KIDS SAY THE DARNEST THINGS, but in later years damaged his reputation with some controversial political crusades.
The Canadian-born host was a fixture for several decades on CBS TV. But his crusade to falsely implicate LSD in his daughter's suicide made his honesty suspect to some fans. His daughter jumped from a sixth story window in 1969, but no drugs were found in her system by toxicology tests. But, that didn't prevent Linkletter from claiming that LSD had somehow caused her death.
Linkletter further compromised his reputation by acting as a celebrity spokesman for STOP(Stand Together Opposing Pornography)a far right wing censorship group founded by religious fundamentalist Dr. Jerry Kirk. Although Kirk is a favorite among the fundamentalist set, he has been condemned by some for using outrageous exaggerations to falsely malalign adult entertainment to raise funds. A mainstream religious minister once attacked Kirk in a PLAYBOY editorial for his outrageous fund-raising tactics and exaggerations. Further, Kirk's organization has falsely used mainstream men's magazines titles that do not fall under obscenity laws to further his fund-raising efforts, which falsely implicates these titles as being illegal or criminal.
Linkletter's reputation has suffered over the years from his phony war effort against drugs and his involvement with Kirk. But, for many years, Linkletter was a popular TV host. To some Linkletter was cool, but to many others he was just a major league dick and a big time phony. He dies a controversial figure.

Hello G and George. Certainly no drugs are good. But, instead of Linkletter accepting a little responsibility for not being a better father to his daughter, the guy chose to falsely blame drugs instead. Further, Dr. Kirk keeps coming up for new names for his organizations after each is attacked for questionable fund-raising. But one of Kirk's frontgroups made some false police reports to the sheriff's office in his home county in Cincinnati claiming that some businesses were selling illegal obscene materials. The head sheriff personally investigated, and didn't find these claims to be substantiated and made no arrests. But no one in Kirk's organization has been charged with filing a false police report. Yet, Linkletter wished to associate himself with this guy.
I call them as I see them. Linkletter was a major league dick. No question about it. Period.

Hooson, upon the occasion of a man/woman's death, it is customary among civilized people, folks with a grain of humanity in them that understand such things to forgo the accusations and sleazy low brow talk and just let the family and in this case, the many fans grieve in their own way.
But true to the creed of leftists everywhere you have no conscience and not enough humanity in you to recognize such social understandings. It's oh so hip and cool of you to drag up whatever dirt you believe in about those you hate and stand around with your dick in your hand casting aspersions.
And lest you think I don't understand anything about Linkletter, I thought some similar thoughts way back when his daughter died. But being a man of some reason, I thought more about it and realized I didn't know the first thing about the sort of maddening grief that attends the death of a child and I cut the guy some slack.
In addition, you might be interested to know that LSD is excreted from the system in less than an hour so the fact that toxicology didn't turn it up doesn't prove that she was not in the grip of a peak experience gone bad. If you're going to talk about such things perhaps some knowledge of your subject matter would help.
A little compassion and some natural humanity would serve you well, Hooson. Don't know though if it's too late for you to dig some up somehow.

Paul, are you trying to be insulting and crude? LSD very well could have been a cause of suicide, ever hear of "flashbacks"? I can show studies that show "porn" is negative influence, can you show a study showing "porn" is positive influence? Just look at the sexualization of children and how it is viewed now versus 50 years ago, go back only 10 years.

The effects and residual effects of LSD take a couple of a days to be "excreted", at least.
It's why you can't take the same type of LSD every day and expect to get high. It takes about 7 days to achieve a closely comparable light show because your body has absorbed the drug and retains parts of it. For a long time. In fact, waiting a month is the best bet.
"LSD very well could have been a cause of suicide, ever hear of "flashbacks"?"---rodney
LSD flashbacks are a myth. One may experience isolated optical illusions shortly after an LSD trip---by "recalling" the movement a pattern made while high while staring at that same pattern shortly after the peak high (say, the next day---when residual LSD is still within the brain). There is no "nine months later I was driving down the road and a dragon popped out of a manhole" experience.
That was pure 1960s propaganda (mostly from the cointelpro units of William Parker's LAPD as transmitted thru Jack Webb and Mark VII Productions via the wacky yet entertaining police fantasy, Dragnet 1967).

As I said, the LSD itself is excreted in less than an hour. The effect upon the brain's serotonin levels continues for a considerable time. Effects though, as significant and central as they may be to the whole experience do not appear on toxicology reports. Thus, their absence does not prove anything at all.

bryanD, since your looking in LSD and it's affects only seems to come from "Dragnet" doing a quick search of LSD myths showed 3 web sites all saying that flashbacks can occur though rare. That the flashbacks can also have a emotional tone to them. So rather than getting you information from TV, why don't you do some research, took me all of 5 minutes, to verify what I had known.

As for your 3-sites-research? Beware of the One-Eyed Man in the land of the blind!

"That the flashbacks can also have a emotional tone to them."---Rodney
Trips can indeed have an emotional tone. But not flashbacks, since flashbacks don't exist.

I have apx 20 hella trips under my skullcap, from yellow sunshine (APO-Germany) to Blue Unicorn (greater LA) to the more aural cousin known as Mescaline (Brooklyn).
(I also have 1 or 2 bummers under my belt from trying to remount the dragon too early before I learned better.)
Why would I (you) have to verify something I (you)know by experience?

No bryanD, my first statement was from memory, you challenged my statement. Did a simple web search and in less than 5 minutes read on 3 different web sites that flashbacks are real. Since then I have done a little further research on flashbacks, and they do happen according to web sites from people with personnel experience, Doctors who treated drug addicts and from sites with information on drugs and their side affects. Also, flashbacks according to what I have found out do not happen to all users of LSD, so your anecdotal experience doesn't prove anything.
By the way, "verisimilitude" doesn't mean what you think it means.

No, I just wrote a crappy sentence around it.
As for your citations of doctors, we must assume they are accepting government largess to rationalize the insane War on Drugs.
Unless, they're freelancing or have a bone to pick---but I would assume their samples must be tiny without a set of government volunteer subjects.
All I KNOW is that when one come down fully by day 3, you're happy to be straight and tasting food again and watching TV with a normal attention span, etc. and that's that. The end.
If somebody is already schizoid anything can happen and the same chemical reactions concomitant with LSD intoxication might be actuated and certain conclusions drawn.
