The reigning Miss England 2009, Rachel Christie, reportedly was involved in a barroom fight with a rival beauty competition contestant earlier this week. As a result she was stripped of her title for violating pageant rules. Christie was arrested on suspicion of assault charges, however was later released from jail on bail.

Christie isn't alone in her scandal. In recent years, beauty contests have become marred with much controversy and scandal. In the U.S., former Miss California Carrie Prejean suffered a major legal loss earlier this week in her quest to sue her former beauty pageant from firing her after a sex tape surfaced with Prejean masturbating for the cameraman. Prejean had previously sought to market herself as some sort of fundamentalist Christian on a number TV venues. Likely, that career is now dead in the water due to the new scandal.

In Australia, Miss Universe Australia winner Rachel Finch, is having some contractual problems with her pageant over a claimed excessive work schedule and other contractual disputes. Her public comments about the organization could eventually result in her losing her title.

In 2006, Miss USA winner Tara Conner had to enter rehab according to an agreement with the pageant to retain her title after her problems with drinking and drugs surfaced. And the rival of Conner, former Miss USA Katie Blair, who informed the public about Conner's substance abuse problem's lost her own job as a spokesperson for MADD when her own underage drinking stories surfaced.

Former Miss Nevada Katie Rees made a lovely booking photo at the police station after being picked up on a traffic violation. Previously she lost her crown over some choice raunchy photos of her surfaced.

One of the most outrageous scandals was the case involving former Miss Arizona beauty contestant Kumari Fulbright who was later arrested on charges of kidnapping and torturing an ex-boyfriend. Her booking photo was indeed a disturbing portrait.
