Twitter Spam FAIL takes me down memory lane

Twitter spam FAIL

I'm going to go out on a limb and figure you've all at least heard that there is such a thing as Twitter. It's only like the entire universe is using it now. Even the blog has it's own Twitter page (Follow, now!). But this isn't about Twitter, alone. It's about the same thing I've seen happen every time there's a system to game.

This is what it looks like on Twitter when you do a search for PC%2C. For a little while today, it was a trending topic. That's how they refer to the list of keywords, phrases, or hashtags (#tag) that end up on the side of your page. The image above is what happens when you mess up the software that's supposed to be spamming Twitter.

I took a screenshot, posted it on Flickr, and embedded it on this entry. But some enterprising person thought it would be okay to waste everybody's time with this. I men, they could be Twittering yet another thing about Micheal Jackson instead of reading this nonesense.

It reminded me of the days of the days of the trackback festivals, with their requisite "Open Trackback Posts". Those were followed, quite quickly, by the "Open Trackback Post Male Enhancement Trackback Spams". If there's a way to try and get people to click on a link, somebody's going to figure out a way to try it.
