- Movie kingpin Harvey Weinstein on Monday said he had signed Oscar-nominated actress Anne Hathaway to portray singer Judy Garland in both film and stage adaptations of the biography "Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland."
- Joel and Ethan Coen will next put their spin on True Grit, the iconic Western that won John Wayne an Oscar. The Paramount film will be more faithful to the Charles Portis book than the 1969 pic, also distributed by Paramount.
- Zac Efron has pulled out of the starring role in Paramount's remake of the 1984 movie musical Footloose. Paramount issued a statement insisting plans for the project are full steam ahead, with or without Efron. Good luck with that.
- Sylvester Stallone's mercenary actioner "The Expendables" has got the bulk of it's cast. Joining Sly will be Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Mickey Rourke, Randy Couture and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
- Two films about Steve McQueen are in the works with the assistance of two of his three wives. Marshall Terrill's biography "Steve McQueen: Portrait of an American Rebel" is being developed with the assistance of McQueen's widow, Barbara Minty. McQueen publicist David Foster is working from a memoir written by McQueen's first wife, Neile McQueen Toffel , titled "My Husband, My Friend."
- For reasons I can not figure out E! parent Comcast Entertainment Group has inked a three year deal with latenight host Chelsea Handler keeping her as the host and exec producer of "Chelsea Lately" through 2012. Oh right. She's dating Comcast Entertainment Group CEO Ted Harbert.
