Last night was the 15th MTV Europe Music Awards and the Rick Rolling was the big winner. The 1987 hit "Never Gonna Give You Up" had a rebirth in May of 2008 as an internet meme, but last night Astley picked up the award for Best Act Ever. I'll repeat it. Best Act Ever. Which sounds more impressive than it is considering he was up against Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Green Day, Rick Astley, Tokio Hotel and U2. Wait, he beat U2?
To make matters stranger Rick Astley couldn't attend the award show because apparently Astley's got more important things going on so picking up the award in his place was Katy Perry and Perez Hilton. Phew. That's one steaming pile of an award.
Other winners:
Album Of The Year: Britney Spears - Blackout
Act of 2008: Britney Spears
New Act: Katy Perry
Rock Out: 30 Seconds To Mars
Headliner: Tokio Hotel
Ultimate Legend: Sir Paul McCartney
