Comedian Al Franken is running for a U.S. Senator seat in Minnesota after winning the Democratic nomination on Tuesday.
The former Saturday Night Live star beat six opponents, taking 66 per cent of the public vote in the state's primary election.
Franken will face current Republican Senator Norm Coleman and Independence Party candidate Dean Barkley in the November election.

As much as I like Al Franke... (Below threshold)1. Posted by Paul Hooson | September 10, 2008 12:27 PM | Score: 0 (0 votes cast)
As much as I like Al Franken as a great comic mind, it's a little hard for me to view him as a senator myself. But I suppose with some many clowns in Washington already, he may not be much different than what's there anyway. And folks from Minnesota are always pretty nice anyway as well. I guess voters could do worse.

I guess Coleman now has a real chance to keep his Senate seat. Too bad for the Dems, but it looks like they lost their minds with Franken as their nominee. This is what happens when the fringe of either party takes over.
