It was the day they've both been awaiting for quite some time now, and on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon (August 16) Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi exchanged their marital vows.
"Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi were married tonight in an intimate ceremony at their home in Los Angeles," the couples' spokesperson told People magazine.

Multimillionaire comic Ellen DeGeneres and her partner made a personal deep commitment decision for themselves to enrich their own lives and are harming no one, yet the social conservatives will only continue to attack Gay marriage as some assault on them despite the total lack of any supporting proof.
I personally see nothing wrong with Gay marriage myself, although like many in their 50's or even older I find the concept sort of strange, but completely harmless to others.

They are a very nice couple. No human being can really reject that; and be honest with themselves.
Why can't we just let them be happy? Together.

Good for them.
Sadly more fodder for the family court attorneys (hopefully not in their case, but in general).
Having seen and heard horror story after horror story of what can happen to partners when one dies and the family descends upon the survivor like sharks in a frenzy, any form of legal domestic partnership is better than none.
That being said, there's marriage, and their domestic partnership. The way most marriages go, it might be better to separate DP from marriage and childrearing. Just a pipe dream, but the concept might save a whole lot of unhappy kids.
