As gay rights activists gear up to protest 'Hairspray' thanks to John Travolta's affiliation with Scientology, the star of the movie says there's no homosexual overtones in the movie.
"There is nothing gay in this movie," Travolta said during an interview with the London Times. Which is right about when, if I were interviewing him, I would have begun to pee myself.
In 'Hairspray,' a remake of the 1988 version of the film, Travolta plays the super-sized female character Edna Turnblad. "Edna could well be my most daring character," Travolta bragged, citing his roles in "Pulp Fiction" and "Saturday Night Fever" as other tough calls.

Oh. My. God.
John Travolta is the personification of denial on a mythical scale. Did anyone ask John Waters' reaction to this pronouncement? Then again, the remake is not being directed by Waters, but rather by one "Adam Shankman", known for directing such comic masterpieces as "Cheaper By The Dozen 2", "The Pacifier" and "Bringing Down the House". In his hands, "Hairspray" might just be "Gay-free"!

I understand that Devine and John Waters were/are gay, but what does that have to do with the movie? Devine was playing a woman, not a drag queen.
I have to agree with John Revolta here.
