Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie played hero last night when he waded into a vicious row between his best pal Kate Moss and her boyfriend Pete Doherty.

The couple had a blazing bust-up backstage at the NME Awards after Babyshambles star Pete was caught trying to smuggle a spoon into the loos at the Hammersmith Palais. The 33-year-old supermodel took her fella aside and issued him a no-nonsense warning after he allegedly slipped the spoon up his sleeve during the dinner for the rock ceremony.

Kate was due to present Primal Scream with the Godlike Genius Award, but Bobby thought it more important that she sorted Pete out. He told her to take him home and not to worry about her award-presenting duties.

Our source close to 27-year-old Pete said: "Bobby made it clear that he was more worried about Kate and just wanted Pete out of there. He knows he isn't good for her and wherever he goes, trouble follows.
