ABC thinks Ugly Betty looks just fine.The Salma Hayek-produced comedy, which is based on a Colombian telenovela, has been picked up for a full season by the net. Betty has averaged 15.3 million viewers a week.
Ugly Betty has improved the time period for ABC by almost 100 percent in total viewers over the same period last year--from 7.8 million to 15.3 million. Combined with Grey's Anatomy, the show has helped ABC take on the CBS Thursday-night ratings block of Survivor and CSI.
Ugly Betty is based on Yo Soy Betty La Fea, a Colombian telenovela that has been translated into 30 languages. Betty stars America Ferrera as Betty Suarez, a perky young woman who goes to work at fashion magazine Mode. Once there, she deals with prissy models, cutthroat coworkers, and her hapless boss.
