Rock star wife Manuela Testolini Nelson has filed court papers in Minneapolis to become "the rock star wife formerly known as Mrs. Prince."

Nelson filed for divorce May 24 in Hennepin County District Court, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported Wednesday.

The divorce petition filed by Nelson is the first hard evidence the couple had legally married, the Star Tribune noted.

After divorcing his first wife, Mayte, whom he married in 1996, Prince publicly denounced the legalities of marriage, the newspaper said.

The Star Tribune was tipped to the filing late Tuesday by an anonymous source who said: "You need to find out why Judge (Tanja) Manrique is holding up the Prince divorce papers. You need to do some research so we can see what's going on there."

It is expected the file will be sealed by the judge, the newspaper said.
