Twenty-nine-year-old Taylor Hicks, from Birmingham, Alabama, was selected as the "American Idol" Wednesday evening at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles. Hicks's victory appeared sealed when Simon Cowell closed out the Tuesday evening show saying, "You have just won 'American Idol,'" beat out Katharine McPhee for the guaranteed record contract.and a shot at stardom. Season Five of Fox's top rated reality show boasted a deep pool of talent and garnered 63.4 million votes between the two finalists in the final night of voting.
Hick's whose quirky singing style endeared himself to Idol fans from his first appearance, joined previous Idol stars Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, and Carrie Underwood as the contestants who were never voted into the bottom two or three on a results show. Legions of Hicks fans, dubbed 'The Soul Patrol,' celebrated the victory of the most unlikely American Idol winner in the shows five year history.

Of course Taylor won. Every idol winner is from the South. Now it's clear why Tuesday night's performances were a little shakey. They were overwhelmed with rehearsals for Wens night. Even Kat's Dad was so busy with interviews, that Fox had to subcontract his crying out to David Hasselhoff.

Except that Clay Aiken lost to Reuben Studdard so technically he was in the bottom two once.

So how do we get everyone to stop this 'more votes than the president got' crap? Last time I checked everyone was only allowed to vote once fore president, except in Chicago, of course, I don't mean to disrespect them.
