Former "Arrested Development" star Jason Bateman has joined the cast of the Middle East thriller "The Kingdom."

Jamie Foxx, Chris Cooper and Jennifer Garner already have boarded the project, which is set for a June start date.

The Universal Pictures revolves around a deadly bombing attack that targets Americans working in a Middle Eastern country, and the U.S. government's counterterrorist response. Peter Berg ("Friday Night Lights") is directing.

Bateman next appears in Universal's romantic comedy "The Break-Up," starring Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn, which opens June 2.
